Opera

The Magic Flute Dartmouth Film Society in conjunction with The Dart Music Festival is to open this year's festival with a sparkling evening of Opera, presented as: "Covent Garden comes to the Guildhall"

The film chosen for this special evening is Kenneth Branagh's latest foray into classical cinema in the form of a Stephen Fry adaptation of Mozart's "The Magic Flute".

What is to make the evening even more special is that starring in this epic film is a young singer in her first major role, Amy Carson. On the Saturday night of the festival in St Saviour's Church, Amy is to perform as Solo Soprano with the much acclaimed orchestra, under the supreme leadership of Margaret Faultless of Devon Baroque. There is even more, our very own Director of Music at St Saviour's, Dartmouth is Christopher Helyer who tutored young Amy when he was Headmaster at The Salisbury Cathedral Choir.

It is all these constituents that make a festival of this calibre such an exciting event, but it is these small details that make it memorable. Marilyn Bird Dartmouth Film Society.
