A Wonderful Evening of Music
at St Saviour’s Church
Conductor and Musical Director Phil Watson
Phil joined the Royal Marine band as an oboist and progressed through the ranks to reach Major.
During his service he ran the Royal Marines School of Music before directing the Royal Marine Band Portsmouth (The Royal Band) for his final 4 years of 33 years service. Dartmouth Orchestra is delighted that Phil is now their Conductor and musical director.
The Dartmouth Orchestra will be presenting a concert featuring a number of soloists at their concert this year in St Saviour’s Church.
A rousing overture will get the concert underway: Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro. This will be followed by our youngest soloist, Hollie James who has recently gained a merit on the grade 3 recorder examination. Hollie will be performing Danse de Bergeret by Sustato. The first half will be concluded with Mozart’s Piano Concerto no. 12 in A Major, featuring Kathy Kenny, a superb local musician.
After the interval, our Orchestra Chairman, Jessica Heywood will perform the lovely Elegy by Faure.
After this we will hear Jane Carrington Porter play the Oboe Concerto on Themes of Pergolesi by Barbirolli.
Finally, to end the concert we will delight in the ever popular Double Violin Concerto by JS Bach, performed by Jack Hyley and Kathy Kenny. Jack is currently studying at the Purcell School of Music.
