Oh What A Night..!

Oh what A Night..! Not so much ‘late December back in sixty three’ as the Four Seasons would have it, but more like mid-January in 2017…

The phrase ‘A Good Time Was Had By All’ must surely have been invented for an event like the Motown/70s Night at the Guildhall last Saturday – the first DMF Fundraiser of the year.

The atmosphere was friendly and fun right from the start, with many guests arriving in a brilliant – and often very inventive – array of fancy dress and already in the mood to party… and party they did!

The non-stop disco music – with a host of Motown classics and much-loved old 60s and 70s favourites – got everybody up on their feet and raring to dance the night away.

As usual, the dear old Guildhall scrubbed up really well and looked fabulous, decked out as it was with red, white and blue bunting, pompoms, and American and English flags, not to mention the natty cardboard ‘LPs’ and strings of CDs which nicely completed the American/Musical theme.

Thanks to Jane, Brenda and all the DMF ladies on the pompom-making team for their sterling efforts!

Thanks also to Nigel Way for lending us the Royal Castle Hotel popcorn-making machine, to Simon Pepper of World Foods for donating the popcorn kernels and to Phil B for his unparalleled popcorn making – not to mention fancy dress – skills…

We are also grateful to Dartmouth Fine Foods for providing and cooking the onions to go with the American hot dogs and relishes lovingly prepared by Hilary, Jilly and the rest of the DMF catering team.

With a great bar run by Lizzie and Barbara and a music-themed raffle organised by yours truly, the whole evening went off with a bang and was deemed a huge success by all.

As Festival Chairman Pam so rightly said when she thanked everyone for coming along and really entering into the spirit of things – we really are grateful for all the support we receive from the community.

The interest in this event was huge and tickets sold out several days before, so we do hope all those who just missed out at the last minute were not too disappointed.

We hope all our happy guests had fun while they were helping to make this year’s Festival – our 20th Anniversary – the greatest one yet. Here’s what some of them had to say:

“What a great job the whole DMF team did last night – I had a complete blast, so thanks to you all!” RW, Dartmouth

“Just wanted to say that we had a great time at the Motown Disco- hope you organise another one soon!” JY, Kingsbridge

Thanks to all involved who really helped to make it ‘A Night To Remember’…

Our next big Fundraiser is ‘An Evening With Ruby Turner’ on March 25th. With only twenty tickets left now, please make sure you don’t miss out on this wonderful one-off event.
