What The Papers Say

HUNDREDS poured into Dartmouth over the weekend to soak up the delights of the Dart Music Festival.

The event which is now in its 12th year has gone from strength to strength and this year boasted more than 60 acts playing at more than 30 venues in Dartmouth and Kingswear.

With everything from choral and orchestral to rock, jazz and funk there was something to keep everybody happy.

The festival's music director James Harris said: "It went really well and I would say we had more people and it was more popular than ever. I think the music generally has been fantastic and a highlight for me was the Joni Mitchell Project which was brilliant."

Other crowd pleasers included Mad Dog Mcrea which saw crowds pack Avenue Gardens to jig Saturday night away to their celtic sounds. Popular local band Sax Appeal also attracted many new and old followers.

There were also sets from blues guitarist Matt Schofield and contemporary rock band, Red Bullets.

The could choose from intimate venues to larger outdoor locations at Bayards Fort and even Britannia Royal Naval College.

"I think we had bigger crowds than we've ever had," added Mr Harris.

"The Market Square was packed on Friday night and it was lovely weather which always helps.

"I would like to thank everyone for all their hard work and the crowds for their kind support of the festival.

"We will have a month off and start the planning for next year."
