Dart Music Festival – and all that Jazz… No. 1

If you’re a jazz fan make sure you don’t miss Jazz Night at the Flavel, with acclaimed trombonist Gordon Campbell accompanied by the Martin Dale Quartet.

Gordon is regarded as one of this country’s leading trombone players. He is currently Lead Trombone in the BBC Big Band, a position he has held since 1984.

He is joined for this special Jazz Evening by the popular Martin Dale Quartet – led by Martin, whose versatile technique and talented improvisations on tenor sax deliver an eclectic blues-influenced mix of modern mainstream jazz.

This very special performance is FREE with a retiring collection, and as it is a ticketed event you will need to book ahead to make sure of your seat. Contact The Flavel Box Office for details on 01803 839530.

There are also a whole host of other jazz artists – all with their own unique style – performing throughout the Festival in venues all over town for your enjoyment. Here is just a taste to whet your appetite  – see the official DMF Programme for full details.

Billy Thompson Gypsy Style

Billy Thompson Gypsy Style

Billy’s time in London and also his time previously with The Amigos taught Billy a great deal about the gypsy jazz style.

Billy has played with some of the very best guitarists around today, including the Dutch gypsy maestro Lollo Meiers and outstanding British guitarists Nils Solberg, Tim Robinson, Robin Katz and Pete Sheppard.

Through his association with the North Wales Jazz Society Billy has also performed with Gary Potter, Andreas Oberg, Robin Nolan, John Etheridge and Howard Alden.

In recent years the outstanding musician that is Karen Street has become an integral member of Billy Thompson Gypsy Style on Accordion. Billy met Karen through performing with Mike Westbrook’s masterwork ‘Glad Day’. Karen features prominently on the new CD ‘The Eberle Sessions’.

Billy and his band blew us away at the Guildhall last year’s Festival with their own inimitable style – surrounded by lots of tapping feet and happy smiling faces. Catch Billy and his Band’s performance at the Bandstand and Bayard’s Cove Fort this year – you’ll love it!
