Dart Music Festival – Keeping it Local…

This year – as usual – the Festival kicks off to the sound of a whole host of young, excited voices ringing out across Royal Avenue Gardens just after lunch on Friday.

Once you hear the strains of their especially composed Dartmouth Anthem – ‘Dartmouth our town, Dartmouth our town, Dartmouth our town by the sea!’ rising from the Bandstand, then you know the Festival has really started!

Primary school children from Dartmouth Academy, St. John’s Primary, Kingswear, Stoke Fleming, Blackawton and Kingsbridge schools will be taking part and helping to start the proceedings on a happy note – so come on down to the Bandstand, forget your troubles and prepare to have some Festival Fun…

Also performing at the Festival is the The Devon Youth Wind Orchestra (DYWO) – a symphonic wind orchestra for students aged between twelve and twenty-one years from all areas of Devon.

Conducted by Steve Grant and organised and administered by the friends of DYWO, the Orchestra offers a unique opportunity for members to develop their musical education and experience within a friendly and welcoming environment.

We look forward to hearing them play in St Saviour’s Church.

DYJO teaches young people from across the whole of Devon including Exeter, North Devon, South Devon, Torbay and Dartmoor to play and perform a wide variety of Jazz.

DYJO has won many national awards over its history for its performances and educational programme, and continues to play to enthusiastic audiences in Devon and beyond.
