A Fabulous Fundraiser of Sensational Singing
British conductor Sir Thomas Beecham said that ‘The function of music is to release us from the tyranny of conscious thought’. So to help you avoid such a fate the Dart Music Festival presents a night of masterful musicality to soothe even the most savage beasts, and may even get your toes a-tapping!
On Saturday 2nd of March, for one night only, the DMF fundraising fairies have wheedled, finagled and cajoled some of the best loved choirs in the area into giving a grand acapella performance of some of their favourite and most popular pieces, as a way of raising some of £70,000 required to put on the full 2019 Dart Music Festival in May.
This unique night will give you the opportunity to not only enjoy a superlative performance from the town’s very own and much loved choir Dartmouth Rock, but also the vocal delights of Kingsbridge based barbershop titans The Kingsmen as well as the much beloved Devonly Voices Community Choir from Totnes, with their sister choir The Singers Upstairs.
Most of you will know Dartmouth Rock from their previous outings in and around Dartmouth, but their repertoire is forever expanding to include new arrangements of modern and classic tracks for their audience to enjoy – and enjoy they do! Since founding the choir in 2013, Jean has taken the Dartmouth Rock choir from strength to strength, and their love of singing shines through in their performances! But don’t just take my word for it. Come along on the 2nd of March to hear for yourself.
The Kingsmen are an award winning barbershop choir based in Kingsbridge, but their members come from all across South West Devon – from Plymouth to Torquay. These guys really know how to bring the music, so if enjoy exceptional barbershop harmonies performed by highly skilled singers then these guy will knock your socks off – in fact, best to bring a spare pair with you just in case!
The final choirs performing for your enjoyment are the much loved groups Devonly Voices and The Singers Upstairs, both of whom are led by the exceptional Vicki Hadland. Their melodic arrangements will captivate you, and their breathtaking harmonies never fail to move the audience. It really is a virtuoso performance!
So there you have it. A night like no other, bringing together the best of acapella for your enjoyment, while raising funds for a fantastically good cause. As you can imagine, tickets are going to be highly sought after so get ahead of the rush and buy yours NOW! Usually it would cost you a pretty penny to see just ONE of these groups, but for one night only you can see all three for the extremely reasonable sum of £10 per adult & £5 for under 18s. Tickets can be bought by calling 01803 833281, or by popping in to either No.11 Clothing in Victoria Road, or the Compass Office Shop on Higher Street. So what are you waiting for?
